The Legacy of Larry Harrington

Some people build successful businesses. Others build something far greater. They build opportunities, inspire others, strengthen families, and leave behind lessons that continue to shape lives long after they are gone.

Larry Harrington did both.

Larry’s story was one of hard work, determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief that success was earned through consistency and doing things the right way.

From Crew Chief to Business Owner

Larry began his career in the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry with Stanley Steemer in Florida, where he quickly established himself as one of the company’s top crew chiefs. His dedication, attention to detail, and relentless work ethic set him apart.

But Larry had bigger dreams.

With the knowledge he gained, a strong belief in himself, and a willingness to take risks, Larry ventured out on his own and established Steam Master in West Palm Beach, Florida.

What began as a dream grew into a thriving operation. Larry later expanded his business interests by purchasing A1 Carpet Cleaning, further establishing himself as a successful entrepreneur in the industry.

His success was never the result of shortcuts. It came from early mornings, long days, high standards, and a determination to build something better.

Building Steam Master Across the Carolinas

After years of success in Florida, Larry decided to begin another chapter. He sold his Steam Master business in West Palm Beach and moved to Western North Carolina.

Larry established another Steam Master location in Fairview, North Carolina, building a business founded on the same principles that had made him successful in Florida: quality workmanship, honest service, and pride in every job.

After eventually selling that operation, Larry once again pursued a new opportunity, establishing Steam Master Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning in Seneca, South Carolina.

From Florida to North Carolina to South Carolina, Larry demonstrated something extraordinary.

He didn’t just know how to build a successful business. He knew how to build one from the ground up, time and time again.

With more than 45 years of hands-on industry experience, Larry became a respected professional whose knowledge, discipline, and standards left a lasting impression.

As a military veteran and IICRC-certified cleaning professional in multiple disciplines, Larry brought a sense of responsibility and attention to detail to everything he did.

He believed in using professional equipment, following proper methods, and getting the job done right the first time.

To Larry, every customer deserved exceptional service, and every job was a reflection of his name.

The People He Inspired

Perhaps Larry’s greatest accomplishment cannot be measured in trucks, revenue, or businesses sold. It can be measured in people. Throughout his career, countless individuals worked alongside Larry, learned from him, and carried his lessons into their own lives. Many who once worked for Larry eventually went on to establish cleaning businesses of their own.

That was one of the remarkable things about him.

Larry wasn’t simply teaching people how to clean carpets. He was teaching them how to work, how to lead, how to take pride in themselves, and how to create opportunities for their futures.

He had a special ability to motivate people to become better, both professionally and personally.

He expected a lot because he understood what people were capable of accomplishing, sometimes before they realized it themselves.

Those who knew Larry understood that his standards were high, his work ethic was unmatched, and his belief in hard work was genuine.

Larry showed people that where you start in life does not have to determine where you finish.

Through discipline, consistency, and a willingness to work hard, he demonstrated that anyone could change the direction of their life.

For many, Larry was more than an employer.

He was a mentor, a teacher, a motivator, and an example of what determination could accomplish.

A Family Legacy That Continues

Of all the businesses Larry built, perhaps the legacy he was proudest to leave was the one he passed down to his family.

His knowledge, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to excellence did not end with him.

Today, members of his family continue working in the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry, operating successful businesses built upon many of the principles Larry spent his lifetime teaching.

The values he instilled continue to guide the next generation.

His family carries forward not only his knowledge of the industry but also his belief in honest work, personal responsibility, and treating people with respect.

What started as one man’s determination to create a better future grew into a family tradition spanning multiple businesses and generations.

Larry didn’t just build Steam Master. He helped build a future for his family and opened doors for others to build futures of their own.

A Legacy That Will Never Be Forgotten

Larry Harrington’s life reminds us that true success is about much more than what we accomplish for ourselves.

It is about what we leave behind for others.

The businesses he established may change ownership. The trucks may change. The equipment, technology, and industry may continue to evolve.

But the lessons Larry taught will remain.

His influence lives on in every family member carrying on his work, every former employee who became a business owner, every person he pushed to reach a higher standard, and every life he helped change along the way.

His legacy is one of perseverance, leadership, family, service, and the belief that hard work and consistency can open doors once thought impossible.

Larry Harrington built businesses. He built people. And through the lives he touched, he built a legacy that will continue for generations.

Forever remembered. Forever respected. Forever a part of the Steam Master story.
